Are you ready to ditch that mask and embark on the next chapter with your family and friends by your side? Most of us are right there with you! This past year has changed so many things for us and the prospect of what comes next has filled us all with both a sense of excitement as well as, in many cases, a sense of anxiety. What will it be like after we emerge?
Perhaps we’ve enjoyed the decreased demands and the extra time at home. Maybe we can’t wait to do all of the old things that we used to. Either way, what lies ahead is certainly an issue that we’ve all given a lot of thought to.
Here are 4 tips to move your thoughts towards next steps, away from the past, and to help you navigate your new normal as we emerge from the pandemic:
- Take a moment to reflect. What did you learn during your downtime? About yourself? About your relationships? About your professional path? If nothing else, we’ve been provided with the luxury of reflection. Spend some time journaling and outlining your big takeaways and aha moments. Chances are that you’ve learned more about yourself than you’ve even realized.
- Figure out what you want. Next, start thinking about what you want for yourself in the future. You’ve probably gained a more solid understanding of the things that you hope to bring back to your life, and those things that you want to ditch. What does your dream life look like as we emerge? You are the architect of what it will be so craft it with care.
- Set goals. Nothing good happens without proper planning and goal-setting. Envision your ideal post-pandemic situation and figure out what your major goals are related to that. Then, outline the steps to turn those goals into reality.
- Help yourself adjust. Remember (and recognize) that change is hard, but that, as a result of it, we grow. Give yourself the time, patience and support that you need to assimilate into your new normal. Take whatever breaks and moments that you require to energize and emerge as the best possible version of yourself. You’ve got this.
