Taking Action is More Important Than Being Innovative (Any Day)

It may surprise you to know, but entrepreneurial success is not always about how innovative you are, but more so about how productive you are - I’ve seen it time and time again. The same concept has applied to my personal journey and to those of the business owners that I mentor as well.

In my work as an entrepreneurship coach, one of the most common problems that I find new entrepreneurs run into is that they have too many ideas (to the point where they are unable to take action on any of them). It’s like they just don’t quite know where to start.

When it comes this idea overwhelm, it all boils down to streamlining and taking action. That action begins with identifying your goals, choosing several to concentrate on, and then outlining the micro-steps that it will take to make them happen. Focus is critical in terms of accomplishment and execution, so pick your most important goals and then move on from there.

To that end, here are some questions to ask yourself in order to get organized and to move those dreams out of your head and into the world:

  1. What are your top 5 business goals? Be sure to make them SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-based).
  2. How can you create an action plan (the outline to make it happen) related to each?
  3. What are the micro-steps for each action plan (the small steps to make them happen)?
  4. How will you set deadlines and track progress towards your goals?
  5. How might you use checklists to organize your days and weeks?
  6. How will you structure your day to dedicate time to these projects (i.e. use chunks)
  7. When will you check in on your progress? Find time each and every day.

As you can see, there is a lot that goes into turning your idea into a finished product. If you want to be successful, however, it will be critical to streamline, plan, and stick with it in order to ensure timely execution! You can do it- just focus and take action.
